Children and Youth

Our Children’s and Youth Ministries seek to help children grow a life-long faith in
Jesus Christ. We seek to provide a foundation that teaches children about God—His
love and purpose for them. Your family will love the fun, meaningful Children’s and Youth Ministries here at First Pres.

Childcare

During worship services, we offer childcare for infants through 3-years-old in our beautiful nursery just a few steps away from our sanctuary. It’s a loving, safe place for children while their parents worship. (All nursery workers are screened and trained for safety.)

Of course, you are always welcome to keep your little one(s) with you – we welcome the “joyful noises” of children in worship!
 
We also have a playroom just off the sanctuary. Your child can play, and you can still be a part of the service.
Childcare at First Pres

Care for babies through 3-year-olds is available during all services and selected special events. Our nursery is located in the hallway leading north off the main sanctuary entrance.

Pre-K through 5th grade

Children's Worship
Teaching children how to worship is an important part of faith formation, and all children
are welcome to worship with their families in the sanctuary. Activity bags are available at
the entrance to the Sanctuary.

During our 8:30 a.m. service, children ages 4 years – 2nd grade begin the service with
their family, and then mid-service they are invited to leave for their own Children’s Worship, which includes engaging, age-appropriate Bible lessons and activities.

Children may also stay with their parents throughout the service.
Sunday School
Throughout the school year, children preschool through 5th grade meet for Sunday
School at 9:45-10:45 a.m. (between services) for Bible lessons and activities during the
school year. It is a welcoming environment for kids at any point in their faith journey to
grow, explore, and discover who God is.
When we meet

Children’s Worship during the 8:30 a.m. service (children are excused mid-service and leave as a group).

Throughout the school year Sunday School for ages preschool - 5th grade is offered between services beginning at 9:45 a.m. Classrooms are in First Pres Center, west of the sanctuary.

Vacation Bible School

What could be greater than a few days in the summer packed with fun, faith, and friendship.  At our annual Vacation Bible School, is a high-energy summer ministry for children preschool through 5th grade, with our older kids jumping in to help!

Held in July, the program offers kids uplifting music, creative crafts, interactive skits, and meaningful Bible adventures—all centered around Jesus Christ. Each year, it is a new theme, new songs and new activities! VBS offers an unforgettable summer experience!

Youth – Middle School through High School

Our Youth Ministry offers relationship, connection, acceptance, and God’s love to all students 6th through 12 th grade. We spend time sharing meals, growing in our faith and reaching others for Christ.

We focus on inviting students into a relationship with God and challenging them to follow Jesus in all aspects of their lives, while being cared for and mentored by outstanding adults.

Through our youth activities, your child will have opportunities to grow in their faith and serve together. Friends are always welcomed and encouraged!

Sunday School
From September through May, youth meet during our Sunday School hour (9:45-10:45 a.m.) for a Christ-centered lesson and focused time together. We gather in the Youth Room on the second floor of First Pres Center, west of the main sanctuary.  

Middle School Youth Group
Our middle school youth group is called YB’s, which stands for Young Believers. YB’s is a weekly opportunity for middle school students to experience community in a safe and loving environment, have fun, and grow in their relationships with God and each other. We also serve our community by participating in a variety of mission opportunities. Invite your friends!

High School Youth Group
LYFE (Living Your Faith Everyday) is a weekly opportunity for high school students to experience community in a safe and loving environment, grow in their relationship with Jesus, and gain some of the practical tools they need to thrive as young Christ-followers in today’s world. At LYFE, we have fun, dive deep into how our faith connects to our lives and serve our community by participating in a variety of mission opportunities. Invite your friends!

between services (9:45-10:45) in First Pres Center.

Meets weekly, Wednesdays, 6-8 p.m.

Meets weekly, Sundays, 5:30-8 p.m.

Child Protection Policy
Kennewick First Pres is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all children and youth who participate in programs and events sponsored by our church. Our Child and Youth Protection Policy reflects our commitment to preserving this church as a holy place of safety and protection for all and as a place in which all people can experience the love of God.

Our volunteers and staff interacting with minors: 
  1.  Have cleared a national and state background check. 
  2.  Are trained in recognizing child abuse and neglect. 
  3.  Must be an outstanding member of the congregation for at least six months.
