Embracing Orphans – Part 2

 In Pastor's Blog
Greetings from Montego Bay, Jamaica!!
It is wonderful to finally be here and see this dream of sharing Christ’s love fulfilled. We have enjoyed two days filled with work on the house we are building with Embracing Orphans. Walls were put up and siding was painted yesterday. Today we were able to put some siding on the house and begin work on rebuilding the bathroom.

We sent teams to Blossom Gardens Childrens home both days as well. We help with feeding infants and playing with the toddlers. They love to have someone hold them and sing songs together.  They were overwhelmed with thanks for the 125 sets of bed sheets we brought from home.  Thank you for your generosity for these precious children. They currently have 52 children and babies in their care and the new sheets are an incredible help in providing for the children.

In the evenings we visit the young women living at the Fathers House and enjoy getting to know them and play board games. They are all working on higher education degrees and looking forward to making a difference in the world.

One highlight was yesterday when I gave clothing and Bibles to the family. They requested a Large Print Bible and were so excited to receive that gift along with Bibles for each of the other family members as well. This is a picture of the great grandmother, Sylvia, receiving her Bible. She was so thankful that she has Gods Word in a way that she can see and share that Word with her family. All day working we enjoyed Christian music and experienced church together to the sound of hammers pounding and paint rolling.

Jamaica is a beautiful country with lush green vegetation surrounded by clear, blue water. Everywhere you look is pretty as a post card and yet there is a great deal of poverty, conflict, and pain. The children at Blossom Gardens simply want to be held and played with. The family we are building with are loving and desire nothing more than to be reunited again.

Please continue to pray for our team, for the family we are working with, the children at Blossom Gardens, and the incredible young women at the Fathers House.

Loving God, you know our needs even before we ask. Thank you for meeting those needs in advance. Thank you for your protection and provision. Thank you for the generosity of this wonderful church who truly lives out the desire to be the heart and hands of Jesus Christ. Thank you for the joy of serving you in Jamaica. Thank you for your faithfulness to us. Bless the children, young women and men, and this precious family we are serving here. Bless our team, keep us safe and healthy. Help us to serve you with our heart, soul, mind and strength. Amen

In Christ,
Rev. Hanna Peterson Shearer
