God’s Spirit for ALL
“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.”
-Joel 2:23-32
Do we trust that God’s Spirit is poured out on us? The prophet Joel shared with the people of Israel that God’s Spirit would be poured out on ALL people, regardless of age, race, or gender… But do we truly feel God’s Spirit in our own lives?
In moments when you feel a sense of calm, even in the midst of a struggle or difficulty, that’s God’s Spirit in your life. When you have a decision to make and the answer seems very clear, giving you peace about the choice, that’s God’s Spirit working in your mind. When you feel the nudge to call a friend or send a card to someone, that’s God’s Spirit working through you. When you have the exact words of comfort or encouragement in a conversation or prayer that someone needs to hear, that is God’s Spirit using you as a mouthpiece for God.
This week, let’s begin each day asking God, “Where do you need to use me today, Lord?” An openness to God gives us the opportunity for God’s Spirit to be poured out, giving us visions, dreams, and prophetic words for other people. I would love to hear your stories of how God’s Spirit is poured out on you this week and how God is working in your life.
Lord, thank you so much for your faithfulness to us in the difficult times. Help each of us to run with perseverance the race that you set before us and to finish that race well with your help. Help us to keep the faith and the teaching that you have entrusted to us and pass it on faithfully to those in the next generation who can teach others also. We know you will be with us to the end. We know that your grace is sufficient.
In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
