God Hears You

“I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy.”
– Psalm 116:1

Do you ever feel as though people are not really listening?  I have to admit I have been guilty of this in the past.  If my children recount a story that seems to drone on and on without much purpose, I occasionally tune out and simply nod my head and say, “uh huh” once in a while.  But I’m not really hearing them; I’m focused on cooking dinner or cleaning up.  When they cry out in pain, however, I am fully present and focused solely on their needs.

This is a huge difference between human interactions and Godly ones.  God always hears us.  God doesn’t tune out when we drone on and on… God stays active and attentive to our cry.  God loves to hear from us.  God looks forward to those conversations.  When King David cried out to God, God answered his prayer.  God provided for his needs and God met him in a place of uncertainty, fear, and pain.  In Psalm 116 we read David’s words, “I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy.”  God hears your cries.  God knows you.  God loves you.  God hears you.

Please welcome Bob Merriman to the pulpit this Sunday as Pastors Hanna and Ashley are taking a week of Study Leave.

Holy God, you are the God above and beyond all things!  With trust, hope and humility in our hearts and minds, we gather to praise and worship you, the God who always hears and answers our prayers. God’s promises are trustworthy and honourable, and so with thankful hearts and minds, we praise and worship our God who understands and guides us.  Ever-loving and Faithful God, you are utterly to be trusted! God’s mercy and love does not discriminate between the rich and the poor, the powerful or the humble, but instead, God pours blessings and grace upon all people who respond to God’s gracious and generous acts of love and compassion.

Awesome God, we come in reverent wonder before You!  Every day and night, we have been blessed by the wonders of our God, whose ways are beyond our understanding, but whose mercy never fails; and whose gentle powers are shown through God’s unfailing kindness to people who are weak and in need of strength, encouragement and hope for the future.  Ever-present God, your faithful love endures forever, and ever. We give thanks with all our hearts to our Listening and Faithful God. Amen.
