Communion for the World

For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.  For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.  -II Timothy 1:6-7

Hearts on fire, that’s what we long for.  Passion for life and the calling to which he had said, “YES, Lord, I will serve you,” is what Paul was encouraging in Timothy.  That is my hope for each one of you as well.  This past Sunday we commissioned Bert Kae-Je in her mission to Romania.  She leaves today!  We made a promise that we would support her and pray for her in this ministry.  Please, over the next two weeks, keep Bert and her team in your prayers.

From Thursday afternoon through Sunday afternoon we will host the Women’s Walk With Christ weekend at our church.  Please keep all the servants and participants in your prayers this week.  On Sunday, we will celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper on World Communion Sunday.  Along with brothers and sisters in Christ all around the world we will break the bread and drink of the cup of Christ.  My prayer is that we may fan into flame the embers of our faith so that it becomes a roaring fire in our hearts and in our communities.  “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” – I Timothy 1:7

God’s heart and love for the whole world is limitless.  May we see the opportunities around us to change our world.  May we be encouraged to love and serve others in the name of Jesus Christ.  May we fan into flame the gift of God which is in us!

We give you thanks, O Father, for the life and knowledge which you have made known to us through your Son Jesus; yours is the glory for ever and ever.  As the grain once scattered in the fields and the grapes once dispersed on the hillside are now united on this table in bread and wine, so, Lord, may your whole church soon be gathered together from the ends of the earth into your kingdom; for yours is the glory and power, through Jesus Christ, for ever and ever.  Amen.
