Trinity Sunday

Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used
to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with
wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
– Acts 3:6-10

In our summer worship series, “Life Together”, we walk through the Book of the Acts of the Apostles.  This Sunday is Trinity Sunday in the church calendar.  We explore how God works and moves in the lives of God’s people.  Peter and John offered something more meaningful and transformative than money to the man begging in the streets in Acts 3.  They healed his legs so that he was able to walk.  It was not through their own power or their own efforts that this was accomplished.  It was the work of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  In the name of Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit through the work of God the Father, this man was restored to health.  The healed man’s response was, “he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.”

When we see the work of God in our lives and in the lives of other people, or in our community, do we walk, jump, and praise God?  Do we even acknowledge and give praise and glory to God for the work of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit?  As we learn from the Apostles, may we embrace the courage to rejoice at the work of God in our lives and in our church.  May we have eyes to see how God is moving and working among us.  May we use the name of Jesus to bring healing and wholeness to the hurting and the lost.  May we see the power of the Holy Spirit transforming those who were broken to restored lives.  May we celebrate the transformative love of God the Father.

We use a lot of words, Gracious God, but do little to turn them into deeds. Instead of being of one heart and soul, we choose sides and form groups of folks just like us. Blessed with great grace, we have trouble sharing it with those who need it the most.  Forgive us, God of love. Forgive us, as we step out of our shadows into your light. Restore us, as we reveal our brokenness. Hear us, as we proclaim Jesus Christ as our Lord and our God.  Amen.
