Worship is an important time each week to come together and praise God; to speak, sing, and share about how powerful and good God is. It is also a time to learn more about God, and how he loves us, and thank him for the many ways he cares for us. Our desire is that through worship experiences, all people might draw closer to God.
Worship is at the heart of our relationship with God, both as individuals and a community of people who believe in him. In worship we focus on God: on hearing Bible verses and a message based on the Bible, on prayer, and on the sacraments of baptism and communion. Of course individual Christians can do many of these things in private. However in worship we come together to experience God as a community.
Our first worship service has a multi-instrument band format, popular Christian music or praise music, and an informal atmosphere. Our second worship service has a traditional format, with hymns, organ music, a choir, and a classical atmosphere. We also have special worship services during the year, including a service of healing and wholeness, and special services during the holidays.
The Worship Team is responsible for worship services at First Pres, as well as several worship-related activities including ushers, special music, banners, and all-church decorating.
The Praise Ensemble is a dedicated group of people who are committed to leading worship for the contemporary service. This group is a wonderful mixture of all ages and includes both instrumental and vocal musicians. We presently have saxophone, bass, drums, and up to ten vocalists. The Praise Ensemble meets every Thursday evening to rehearse for Sunday worship. It is very exciting to see how God uses the Praise Ensemble as a place where our young people can begin to develop their talents and their own ministry in a loving and inviting environment. We feel blessed and excited that God uses the Praise Ensemble week after week to usher people into His presence every Sunday morning.
“I will sing of the love of God forever, with my mouth will I make your faithfulness known through all generations.” Psalm 89:1
The chancel choir provides music for the 11 a.m. service each Sunday from September through May. They rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m. during those months. The choir is traditional, singing music of the masters as well as a wide range of musical styles. In addition to Sunday worship services, the chancel choir prepares special music presentations for the Christmas and Easter seasons.
You do not need to be a professional to sing in the choir. We need people who love the Lord, want to praise Him with songs.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.” Colossians 3:16
Agape Ringers is our adult bell choir that offers the opportunity to enhance the worship service through playing handbells. We want to grow spiritually and musically as we ring our praise to the Lord. We do our musical best while having fun and enjoying time together. Our highest priority is to glorify God through music.
The AGAPE RINGERS is our adult bell choir that rings once a month – September through May. We rehearse on Thursdays 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the bell room.
