Stephen Ministries

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is a program that equips lay people (people who are not pastors or formally trained in ministry) to provide Christian one-to-one care to anyone who is are experiencing any kind of difficult life situation.  Stephen Ministers help people at First Pres and all through our community.  Stephen Ministers are committed Christians who . . .

  • express God’s care to others

  • receive 50 hours of training in important caring ministry skills and concepts

  • visit another person regularly to offer a listening ear, support and care

  • participate in regular support meetings with trained Stephen Leaders

  • are committed to keeping the caring relationship confidential

  • receive continuing education and skill building during their time as a Stephen Minister

There are times when each of us needs care from another person.  Stephen Ministers help people who are:

  • in the hospital

  • terminally ill

  • grieving a death or serious loss

  • homebound or institutionalized

  • having a job crisis

  • dealing with issues related to aging

  • dealing with disabilities

  • needing the support of a Christian friend

  • facing life transitions (retirement, empty nest, etc.)

  • separated or divorced

  • in spiritual crisis (questioning God)
