Worship Ministry Subteams

Our worship services need the talents of many individuals. By bringing a wide variety of gifts into the worship mix, we can offer a rich, spiritual, and meaningful worship experience whether the service is traditional or contemporary.

Subteams have been formed to coordinate these talents and gifts.

Ushering Ministry

We are recognized as a warm and welcoming church.  Our ushers are a great part of that ministry.

Do you enjoy meeting, greeting, and nurturing people?  Being an usher will fulfill your needs.

 The duties of ushers are:

  • Arrive at least 15 minutes before service begins.
  • Greet people, give them bulletins, and help them find seats.
  • Gather prayer requests and deliver them to the pastor.
  • Receive the offering.
  • Count attendance.
  • Following the service, help return the sanctuary to order.
  • Be aware of any emergencies.

Worship Support Ministry

This ministry is responsible for operation of the sanctuary sound system and LCD projection system. Ministry duties include training of system operators, scheduling of operators to support the various worship services, and operation of the sound and LCD systems in a manner that enhances the worship experience.

System operators commit to be trained and operate the assigned systems as scheduled. The operation of the sound system requires "an ear" to hear what needs to be tweaked, and the ability to adjust the system to produce the desired results. The operation of the LCD projection system requires familiarity with operation of the LCD projectors, laptop computer, the DVD and VHS video players, and the ability to prepare PowerPoint presentations of the material to be projected during the services. Operators of both the sound and LCD systems must be able to set up and operate the systems as seamlessly as possible.

In addition, this team provides worship support for weddings, memorial services, and other special services as the need arises. It also is called on to operate the sound and LCD systems in First Pres Center to support special programs. Scheduling is flexible, and training is provided.

Communion Preparation

We serve communion on the first Sunday of every month, on Ash Wednesday, on Maundy Thursday, and on Christmas Eve.  Helpers are needed to prepare the communion and set the communion table.

Children's Sermon

Jesus said, "Suffer the little children to come unto me." We welcome and enjoy the presence of young children in our worship services.  We provide a children's sermon on three Sundays of each month.  The children are then excused to go to children's church.

Special Music

The purpose of this ministry is to provide a special ministry of music for a worship service. This ministry can be vocal or instrumental, soloist or small ensemble. The chancel choir does not sing throughout the summer so special music is needed for the 10:30 a.m. service from mid-June through Labor Day weekend.  In addition to the summer schedule, special ministries are welcome throughout the year to complement the worship experience by providing a special selection for an offertory, prelude, or postlude.

Banner Ministry

Our banners help to beautify the sanctuary and make a statement of our beliefs. The banners team is looking for people to help design and make new and repair old banners. Banners are changed as the seasons of the church change.

Flowers Ministry

If arranging flowers are high on your list of fun things to do, how about helping with the flower ministry for the church?  This doesn't mean that you always provide the posies, just that you keep track of the flower calendar on the office door and remind the people who have signed up to furnish flowers.  There are also people who share from their gardens when the date is empty.

Advent Wreath Candle Lighting

This ministry enhances the Advent Season through the participation of families and individuals in the worship service.  Participants light the advent candles and explain the meaning of the particular candle and lead the congregation in prayer,

Decorating Ministry

Do you like to decorate? Are you inspired to make our church sparkle for special holidays?  Your talents are greatly needed!  We would recruit helpers for these jobs and you could be the director.
