The voice is an instrument of sublime worth for man to use in offering praise to the almighty. Through song, we can express the loftiest thoughts about God and his creation. The psalmist declared, "I will sing of the love of God forever, with my mouth will I make your faithfulness known through all generations." (Psa. 89:1) God is glorified when our voices are raised in praise of Him.
The chancel choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9:00 p.m. and provides music for the 9:40 and 11:00 a.m. services each Sunday. The choir is traditional in form, singing music of the masters as well as a wide range of musical styles. In addition to Sunday worship services, the chancel choir prepares special music presentations for Christmas and Easter.
You need not be professionally trained to sing in the choir. We need people who love the Lord, want to praise Him in song, and are committed to that endeavor.
It has long been a tradition of the church to have a chancel choir to lead in worship services each Sunday. As the years have passed, other exciting ministries of music have developed at First Presbyterian Church. Every believer has been given at least one spiritual gift (ability) to assist his or her church in achieving its God-given purpose. The chancel choir offers an opportunity to the congregation to serve through music.
